Leg Formula for SoftBums

I love getting email.  Especially from Sarah, SoftBums' inventor.  This morning she found a link on DiaperSwappers for a formula on how to adjust your Slide 2 Size system, and she thought it looked great.  So here it is!

Step 1. Measure baby's thigh circumference (in inches).

Step 2. Calculate this equation:
thigh circumference (in inches)
÷ 2
+ 1½ inches
= elastic setting

Step 3. Lay the diaper flat and measure the distance from the beginning of the elastic (where it's sewn down) to the toggle position. Adjust the elastic on each leg until this measurement equals the # you got in Step 2.

8" thigh
÷ 2
= 4"

+ 1½"
= 5½"

If you think you need help with your fit, try this formula out, if you still need help be sure to ask!  Try this formula and let us know what you think!  As always, be sure to double check the legs, this is just an idea, and is not fool proof.  We have a bunch of people with lots of experience using these diapers around here.  We all love to help!  Just ask!

Keys in fitting your diapers in addition to this:
Be sure your diaper is high enough on baby's waist, you may have to loosen the legs to get it high enough, it should sit about belly button height in the back, and just under belly button in the front.  Don't make the elastic too tight, let it be elastic!  You should ALMOST be able to see between the leg and the diaper.  No squeezing!  It may seem like you're going to get a leak, but trust me, it will be okay!  :)

  1. I need to try this! I always get a great fit, but this sounds interesting.

  2. wow.. i have mine way too tight! i have sized them as shown and they seem so loose it makes me nervous but i am going to give it a try!

  3. I just tried this. One of my diapers was close to this by a half inch. But what i would like to point out is that one diaper one leg opening was 3 inches different than the other!

  4. I would LOVE to see a video of someone resizing a shell using this formula. I know it's pretty simple, but my little one has some seriously chunky (and adorable) thighs and the measurements I'm getting just seem so big I feel like I'm doing it wrong... haha.
